Mike Treadway from Con Cut Southeast was slicing trenches in the foundation of the Main Library Wednesday to begin construction of Shelby’s Coffee Shoppe. He said he expected the concrete would be six or eight inches thick, but after he put his saw to it, he was “amazed” to find it more than 10 inches thick. “They really built this place to last,” said Treadway. According to Butch Flakes, the job supervisor for Commercial Interiors, Shelby’s will be serving coffee and snacks by the end of March.
