When repairs are complete on the Northbank Riverwalk, the biggest change you’ll be able to see will be the absence of the large planters and the palm trees. According to the City’s Public Works Department, each planter weighed 20 tons, including the plants, the soil and the planter itself. With 15 of the planters between Newnan and Market streets alone, that’s 600,000 pounds of load on the structure – equivalent to the weight of a C-17 Globemaster Airlifter, the largest and heaviest cargo plane in the U.S. Air Force inventory (inset).
