Teach for America founder visits Jacksonville

Dozens of Jacksonville City officials and educators including Duval County Public Schools Superintendent Joseph Wise (right) gathered at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts Thursday for a keynote address from Teach for America founder and CEO Wendy Kopp (left). Jacksonville was recently accepted into the Teach for America program which recruits recent college graduates — regardless of their major — trains them and places them in cities in need of teachers in struggling and challenged schools. “This is a very exciting time for Jacksonville,” said Wise. “We’re honored to be a part of a program like Teach for America.”
