The Florida Family Law Inns of Court concluded its 2006-07 professional year with a party at the Florida Yacht Club. A good crowd turned out for the banquet and Las Vegas-style entertainment.
Led locally by County Court Judge Gary Flower, the Florida Family Law Inns of Court is a professional organization made up of members of The Florida Bar whose practice areas are marital and family law. Members of the Inn include family law judges and magistrates as well as attorneys who focus their practices on family and marital law.
Membership to the Inn is by invitation only and members are ranked according to their level of experience in family law: Associates, 1-5 years; Barristers, 6-15 years; and Masters, 15-plus years.
This year’s banquet also featured the presentation of the Rudy Hernandez Professionalism Award to attorney Elliot Zisser. The award goes annually to a member of the Inn who exhibits the highest degree of professionalism and ethics during the preceding year. David Garfinkel, who won the award last year, presented this year’s award to Zisser.
Flower has led the organization for the past year and, according to member Jim Keenen, divided the members into pupilage groups. Over the course of the year, those groups developed and presented professional topics relating to family law to the Inns’ membership during regular monthly meetings.
The group will meet again in August.
