Fraternal Order of Police President Nelson Cuba has come up with a plan to help Sheriff John Rutherford offset some of the budget cuts the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office may be facing. Nelson unveiled his tongue-in-cheek idea at last week’s monthly FOP luncheon. The idea involves finding sponsorship for all JSO cruisers, a plan that might make the police cars resemble NASCAR cars, but Nelson says it would raise plenty of money.

The new car would be a Toyota Prius instead of the Ford Crown Victoria, an instant savings of $5,000. The Prius also gets significantly better gas mileage than the Crown Victoria.
