Chief Judge Don Moran and others will host a ceremony for retiring Circuit Court Judge A.C. Soud Thursday at the County Courthouse in Courtroom 4 at 4 p.m. Circuit Court Judges Charles Arnold and Aaron Bowden will also preside over the ceremony during which a portrait of Soud will be unveiled.
Attorney Tom Brown, his son Jeff Soud and former Mayor and current University of North Florida President John Delaney will also be on hand as will many family and friends. The event is open to the public for anyone who wishes to attend.
Soud hinted at retirement a year ago and made it official when he turned his resignation in to Moran in early March. He was appointed to the bench Jan. 6, 1981 and estimates he presided over 300-500 cases a years during his 26-plus year career. Soud’s retirement is effective June 30 and he plans to enter the state’s senior judge program and will fill in when called and where necessary.
