• Several people who recently flew out of JIA received free parking passes courtesy of the Jacksonville Aviation Authority’s Director of External Affairs Michael Stewart. Seems they parked in Economy Lot 1 and while they were gone the Aviation Authority had to do some work exactly where they parked. The cars were moved, causing some initial confusion. Everyone whose car was moved got two parking passes.

• Edward Waters College is in the process of hiring its 28th president and its presidential search committee is holding a series of breakfast meetings this week with the finalists for the job.

• On the mend: attorney Howard Coker. He recently had surgery on his left shoulder to repair the rotator cuff and a torn labrum. Coker said he waited too long; the shoulder finally locked up.

• Candidates for office have until April 10 to turn in their Office Account Treasurer’s Reports to the Supervisor of Elections Office. The late fine is $50 a day up to 25 percent of the candidate’s total receipts or expenses, whichever is greater.

• The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Jacksonville is looking for volunteer docents to give tours at the museum. Volunteers will attend a six-week training program, given by the museum’s education department. The program starts May 14. For more information call 366-6911, ext. 207.

• The Riverside Fine Arts Series will host the band Ahn Trio on April 21 at 8 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd. Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased at www.riversidefinearts.org or by calling 389-6222.

• U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown, D–Jacksonville, said she recently visited Walter Reed National Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and said while conditions there are a problem, the level of care is not. “The caliber of service is not the problem, it was the conditions,” Brown said Monday. “You get the best of care there.”

• Cafe Nola at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Jacksonville is having Easter Brunch April 8 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling 366-6911, ext. 231. While you are there you can visit the Nick Cave exhibition being showcased in the museum’s 3rd Floor Gallery. Sunday’s are “Family Free Days” and children and accompanying adults are admitted to the museum for free.

• The Design Review Committee meets Thursday at 2 p.m. in the City Hall Annex. Look for the Southshore Group’s marina near the Aetna Building to get the go-ahead as well as the Police and Fire Pension Fund’s renovations of the old Haverty’s Building.
