• City Council staff is making it easier to track legislation on-line. Resolutions and ordinances have been accessible through the Internet for years, but now the bills and their legislative summaries are accessible by date of introduction.

• Mayor John Peyton has created a new board that will focus on his efforts to “improve the overall health and fitness of our community.” Peyton has begun sending out invitations to join the Mayor’s Council on Fitness & Well-Being Board.

• From now through Aug. 19 the “Pre-Columbian Art of Mesoamerica Exhibition” is at the Museum of Science and History. Guests will learn about the Mayan and Aztec cultures and pottery dating back to 500 A.D. is on display. For more information call 396-7062 or visit www.themosh.org.

• City Council President Michael Corrigan has appointed Council member Art Graham to the Keep Jacksonville Beautiful: A Clean City Commission. Graham’s term starts July 1.

• General Counsel Rick Mullaney, along with several of his staffers, is hosting an ethics training class June 1 in the Main Library. The class is a requirement of 32 elected officials in Jacksonville including the mayor, City Council members, the county’s five Constitutional officers and seven School Board members. The training will include conflicts of interest, gift disclosure requirements, public records and the Florida Government in the Sunshine Laws. The morning session of the day-long class will focus on Jacksonville’s consolidated form of government and local laws.

• Stephen Powell has been appointed as an assistant general counsel with the Office of General Counsel and will work in the tort litigation department. Powell joined the OGC April 30.

• There’s a zoning and land use law seminar at the Wyndham May 15 that’s also worth CLE credits. St. Augustine attorney Sidney Ansbacher and Gainesville attorney Gary Edinger are scheduled to teach.

• Rogers Towers has added Christopher Mellott as an associate in the firm’s corporate and tax department. Mellott is a graduate of Florida State University College of Law and joined Rogers Towers after two years with Holland & Knight.

• The Jacksonville Bar Association, Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, the Central Florida American Immigration Lawyers Association, the Duval County Library system and the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring two “Learn how to become a U.S. citizen” seminars. They are set for May 19 from 1-2 p.m. at the Southeast Branch library on Deerwood Park Boulevard and May 22 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Webb Wesconnett Branch library on 103rd Street.
