According to Learn to Read Executive Director Heather Corey, portions of last Monday’s Kiss the Pig article need to be clarified. Corey said her board of directors made the decision to allow this year’s top fundraiser the option of choosing someone to kiss Arnold the pig at last Sunday’s Jacksonville Suns game. She also said the top fundraiser has always been the one that kisses that year’s pig.
The story may have inferred that attorney Howard Coker reached the $20,000 mark by contributing most of it himself. According to Corey, Coker delivered nearly 30 checks to the Learn to Read offices late in the morning of April 27 worth $19,850. He then wrote a personal check for $150 to make his total an even $20,000.
Finally, all of the candidates kissed Arnold, not just Coker.
