The Glass Camels, Jacksonville’s own Grateful Dead tribute band, takes center stage with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra for “A Tribute to the Grateful Dead” on Friday at 8 p.m. Tickets for the originally scheduled date of April 14 will be honored for the new concert date. Scott Gregg conducts the JSO and Glass Camels during the first half of the show. Following intermission, the Glass Camels will perform without the orchestra. This “Plugged-In Series” concert is sponsored by AmSouth Bank.
The Grateful Dead created an entire genre of music single-handedly. Their sound was born out of the psychedelic revolution, embraced by a generation that defined the 1960s as a free-spirited, fun-loving decade. “Deadheads” supported this new world of adventurous rock that kept the audience dancing to improvisational marathon concerts. Andrew Chopra, another Jacksonville musician, wrote the orchestral arrangements.
The show is at the Robert E. Jacoby Symphony Hall, Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts
