• Nice touch. Florida Rock Industries, Inc. President and CEO John Baker has agreed to donate $6,000 to U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown’s Summer Enrichment and Summer Camps programs. The money will cover the cost of sending 20 kids to the camps.
• City Council member and State Rep. Dist. 16 candidate Lad Daniels is holding a fundraiser May 24 at the Haskell Company on Riverside Avenue. Daniels’ host committee is comprised of 50 area business and elected officials including former Mayors Ed Austin and Jake Godbold and current Mayor John Peyton.
• Speaking of Peyton, he recently approved an Executive Order that expands the Mayor’s Asian-American Advisory Board from seven to 11 members. The move is in response to the growing Asian-American population in Jacksonville.
• Correction. Tickets to the July 8 American Idols Live show at the Arena go on sale this Saturday.
• The Spring Music Festival at Metropolitan Park is May 26 and this year’s lineup features the band The Sacred Hearts, which is fronted by Jim Belushi, brother of the late John Belushi.
• Dancin’ in the Streets, the annual day-long music and arts festival in the Town Center area of Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach, is Saturday. Things get underway about 10 a.m.
• A sign at the Landing says Dipper Dan’s will soon replace the Ice Cream Churn.
• Po’ Boys Cafe in Atlantic Beach has closed and the space is up for lease. It’s in the strip mall with Tree Steak House on Atlantic Boulevard.
