• State Rep. Stan Jordan will be visiting students and teachers at Parkwood Heights Elementary School. He will be presented with letters from the students in response to his DVD “The History of Florida’s Military Uniforms Since 1565.”

• Due to higher than normal tides, there may be temporary closure of or limited beach access to Huguenot Memorial Park during periods of high water or impacts related to beach and dune erosion. The park is typically open seven days a week from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Visitors are advised to call 251-3335 beforehand to check the park’s conditions or closure status.

• Video Law Services, Inc. (VLS) has announced the opening of its new satellite location in Lake Worth, Florida. The company has been in Jacksonville producing video documentaries for litigation purposes for the past 20 years. The new location will be operated by one of the producers from VLS’ current Emerson Street location.

• In reference to the feature film, “The Pursuit of Happyness” which was based on a series of events that left him homeless in the 80s, Christopher Gardner said “It cost them (the film’s producers) $70 million to recreate what I did, with nothing. That’s Hollywood for you.” Gardner, owner and CEO of Christopher Gardner International Holdings, made the statement Friday during his speech at the 2007 Diversity Leaders Conference and Luncheon where he discussed his life story and the effects that self-empowerment has had on his financial and personal success.

• The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens will hold the next class in its series of gardening classes, “Conserving Water in the Garden,” June 2 from 9:30- 11 a.m. at the Zoo’s PepsiCo Education Campus. Lassie Lee, a Master Gardener and representative from the St. John’s River Water Management District, will be the guest speaker. The class will cover “waterwise” plant choices and landscaping to promote water conservation. The cost is $15 per person for Zoo members and $20 per person for non-Zoo members. • Correction: Judy Keen was misidentified in a story published in the May 17 issue of the Daily Record. She is not the wife of JJ Nolan or a kindergarten teacher at New Berlin Elementary School. Keen is an employee of the Jacksonville Port Authority.

• The law firm of Camerlengo & Brockwell was the presenting sponsor for the 2007 Fur Ball benefiting the Jacksonville Humane Society to help them recover from the recent fire. Camerlengo & Brockwell delivered food and gifts to Fire Station #28 including dog treats for the three surviving dogs that were rescued from the fire.
