Jack Gillrup, chief of Disabled Services for the City, who resigned from his position in April, was presented with a “Fourth Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Commendation for Exemplary Service” award from Chief Judge Don Moran Wednesday at a ceremony in the Chief Judges Chambers of the Duval County Courthouse. Roughly a dozen people attended the presentation that was held to recognize Gillrup for his 16 years of service to the City of Jacksonville, including Court Administrator Britt Beasley and Senior Judge James L. Harrison. Gillrup, whose retirement doesn’t become effective until July 1, said he plans to use his time to pursue other interests like writing, hunting and exploring the outdoors but said he will always continue his efforts of helping Jacksonville’s disabled.
