• Lawsikia Hawkins has been appointed assistant general counsel with the City’s Office of General Counsel and practices in the office’s government operations department.
• Florida Bar President Hank Coxe is urging Jacksonville attorneys to become Fellows of The Florida Bar Foundation. Coxe recently sent letters to area attorneys who aren’t members explaining the necessity to help the charitable arm of the Bar. Attorneys can become Fellows by paying $1,000, which can be spread over five years. The Foundation provides financial support for legal aid organizations and funding for programs aimed at helping children.
• The Clay County Clerk of the Court’s Office was recently approved by the Florida Supreme Court to begin testing its technology infrastructure in order to receive electronic files for all civil cases. A Supreme Court administrative order requires a 90-day test period, starting with probate cases. Attorneys who want to participate can contact Leah Connor, technology director for the Clay Clerk’s Office, at 269-6361. According to Clay Clerk James Jett, Clay County would like to receive its certification by Sept. 1, making it one of the first counties in the state to begin receiving electronic files for all civil cases.

• The Jacksonville Children’s Chorus is looking for children in grades 2-5 to be a part of its latest ensemble housed at Brentwood Elementary School.
