• Goodwill of North Florida and Sodexho, a commercial laundry company, have opened a new facility to provide laundry services to area hospitals and clinics. The charitable-private partnership will create more than 100 jobs for Goodwill’s disadvantaged job-seekers and is located at the organization’s Lenox Avenue location. Last year, Goodwill of North Florida served more than 23,000 individuals with disabilities and special needs and placed more than 10,000 into employment. The services are self-funded through revenue generated by the organization’s network of retail thrift stores.
• The windows at the former Musicland store at the Landing have been painted over, but it’s not to conceal construction of the long-awaited Fuddrucker’s restaurant. The center’s retailers are using the space to store extra merchandise they are stockpiling for the festivities surrounding the Florida/Georgia football game.
• The Jacksonville Suns are now offering a new Suns gift card. The gift cards are redeemable throughout the Baseball Grounds and fans can purchase anything from tickets to souvenirs. Gift cards can be purchased year-round through the Perfect Game Team Store or by calling the front office at 358-2846. Cards are available in $5 increments with a $10 minimum value.
• The St. Johns Riverkeeper’s first-ever “Family River Ride” on Saturday was a big hit with 27 people taking the educational morning ride down the river, said Riverkeeper Education and Outreach Coordinator Danielle Dolan. She said the 40-person boat is completely booked and a waiting list has formed for this Saturday’s trip. But Dolan said seats are still available for the “Brown Bag” boat rides scheduled for Friday and Oct. 26. Downtown workers and others can enjoy a 45-minute tour down the St. Johns River while enjoying lunch. • As a part of the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens concert series Latvian violinist Baiba Skride is performing at 3 p.m. Nov. 11 at the museum. For reservations, call 356-6857. Museum members are admitted free and admission for non-members is $8.
• The Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce’s annual Military Appreciation Luncheon is set for Nov. 13 at the Hyatt. There are a variety of ticket prices and you can call the Chamber at 366-6000, ext. 7620 for more information. No word on the guest speaker.
• The Museum of Science and History is opening an exhibit Oct. 27 called “Veterans Remember the War.” The exhibit will be at the museum through March. The purpose of the exhibit is to transport visitors back in time to experience World War II through the memories of local veterans.
