• State Attorney candidate Angela Corey has gotten the endorsement from the 22,000-member State Fraternal Order of Police. The group recently voted to endorse Corey who is running against current Chief Assistant State Attorney Jay Plotkin. Earlier this year, Corey received the endorsement of the Jacksonville FOP.

• The Bay Street architectural firm of Looney Ricks Kiss has opened an office in Boulder, Colo. The Boulder office is the ninth for the architecture, planning and interior design firm.
• Attorney Donald Nichols has filed suit against the City on behalf of Michael C. Thompson, whose son — Michael Lee Thompson — was killed in a May 23 wreck on Commonwealth Avenue. The suit sites standing water that caused the vehicle that Thompson was in to hydroplane.
• Memorial Hospital will break ground on its new patient tower during at Nov. 15 ceremony at 4 p.m.
• CSX Manager of Environmental Remediation Keith Brinker has been recognized by the Association of American Railroads with the 2007 North American Environmental Employee Excellence Award. Brinker was one of five across the nation nominated for the award.
• Gold’s Gym plans to open its third Jacksonville location on Beach Boulevard early next year, but the owners are offering a preview of the 33,000 square-foot club. The preview center is two doors from the gym’s permanent site. It’s in St. Johns Square, which is owned by Landing owner Toney Sleiman.
• State Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles Bronson announced a new Web site that provides locations in Florida where alternative fuels such as biodeisel, biodeisel blends, E85 and E10 ethanol can be purchased. According to the site, www.doacs.state.fl.us/standard/petro/AltSiteMap.html, the closest alternative fuel station to Jacksonville is American Homegrown Fuel Corp. in Lake City, which sells a 20 percent biodeisel blend.
• Florida’s Children First, a non-profit organization that advocates for the legal rights of foster kids and other at-risk children, will honor several local child advocates for ongoing support of children’s issues at a cocktail reception and fundraiser on Thursday at the Haskell Building. This year’s honorees include foster parents Len and Suzi Loving, pediatrician and Child Protection Team investigator Dr. Mary Soha, the Boselli Foundation; the law firm of Zisser, Robison, Brown, Nowlis & Maciejewski, P.A. and former foster children Jesse Wilson and Latosha Rosiland Sawyer.
