Duval County Tax Collector Mike Hogan will mail out the 2007 property tax bills and notices Wednesday and the Tax Collector’s Office will begin accepting payments Thursday.
Payments can be made by mail, through the Tax Collector’s Web site at www.coj.net/tc or in person at all of the branch offices. The Web site has a map showing the location of all the branches across town.
Tax payers whose taxes are set up in an escrow account will receive a billing statement which will be sent to the taxpayer’s last recorded address on the certified property tax roll. This roll is maintained and produced by the Property Appraiser (www.coj.net/pa). Florida law requires every property owner to make sure their taxes are paid and a tax bill is received.
The Tax Collector’s Office will accept payments from Thursday until March 31, 2008. Certain discounts apply if property taxes are paid early. Those dates are as follows:
November — 4 percent discount
December — 3 percent discount
January — 2 percent discount
February — 1 percent discount
March — no discount applied
Taxes become delinquent on April 1, 2008 at which time a 3 percent penalty is added to the bill and the payment must be made with cash or certified funds.
Tax payments submitted by mail must utilize the envelope provided with the tax bill. If a taxpayer wants a receipt for payment, they must include a self addressed stamped envelope. However, the simplest method would be to print a receipt from the Web site.
If you have any questions about property taxes, including finding out if your payment has cleared, you can go to www.coj.net/tc which is updated live as payments are processed. You can also call the Tax Collector’s Office at 630-1916, if you have any questions about your tax bills or if you did not receive a tax bill.
