City Council President Daniel Davis (right) and Council member Bill Bishop cut up some of the 60 pounds of lettuce served to the homeless at the Sulzbacher Center Wednesday night. Davis organized the volunteer effort that included Council members Don Redman, Art Shad, Clay Yarborough, Denise Lee and Stephen Joost and a few other City staffers. More than 500 people were expected to enjoy 60 pounds of pasta with more than 100 pounds of meat sauce. Sulzbacher President and CEO Audrey Moran said the center serves 1,200 people a day, 100 more a day compared to last year. “We are a public-private partnership, and it’s important for our elected officials who are making decisions about funding to get involved and see what we do here,” said Moran.
