• According to Jacksonville Symphony Administration Chair Jim Van Vleck, the search committee to find a new Symphony executive director voted unanimously to make an offer to Stacy Ridenour, who currently serves as executive director of the Kalamazoo Symphony in Kalamazoo, Mich.

• Speaking of the Symphony, Chris Doerr has been nominated to serve as chair-elect by the board leadership and executive committees.

• If you planned on heading to Chew for lunch or dinner Aug. 25-Sep. 1, you should make other eating arrangements. The Adams Street restaurant will be closed and will reopen on Sept. 2.

• That same week and right down the street, though, the Bread and Butter Cafe on the corner of Adams and Laura streets will be celebrating its one-year anniversary. “It’s been a pretty good year, but we are hoping next year is even better,” said manager Al Mulkey. To celebrate, customers can take advantage of week-long daily specials and business card drawings.

• Dreams Come True is selling discount cards that can be used to save 20 percent at over 350 area retailers from Oct. 15–26. The cost is $50, with all proceeds going directly to the organization that assists children with life threatening illnesses fulfill their dreams. • For the sweet tooths out there Three Sisters Chocolate in Mandarin hosts its first “Monthly Monday Chocolate Tasting” Sept. 9 from 5–7 p.m. On tap will be one favorite, the “Gooey To Die For Chocolate Covered Brownie” and one new item, the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Twizzler. The Mandarin shop will continue hosting tastings on the second Monday of every month. For more information, call 262-9122.
