• Cell phone service provider Metro PCS has set up shop at the Landing. It’s across from Dipper Dan’s at the main courtyard entrance and exit.
• Speaking of the Landing, yesterday was the last of the 2-for-1 lunch specials. About a dozen restaurants participated in the promotion. A sign says to look for the next promo.
• The Burrito Gallery has been named the official bar of the Atlantic Division of the World Adult Kickball Association. League play starts Sept. 4 and the group will descend on the Downtown eatery and watering hole every Thursday. The league has 16 teams with rosters that average 20 people, so it may get a little crowded.
• One of Jacksonville’s newest pet boarding facilities, Pet Paradise, offers a shelter that is Hurricane Category 3 safety rated for pet owners who might have to leave their homes during hurricane season.
• Speaking of hurricanes, a package deal is available for people wondering how they can help communities affected by the hurricane season. A $100 donation to the Salvation Army will feed a family of four for two days, provide two cases of drinking water and one household cleanup kit, containing mops, brooms and other cleaning supplies.
