The Ivy Ultra Bar welcomed Downtown residents and organizations Wednesday to help it officially celebrate its opening on Bay Street after the ceremony was delayed by Tropical Storm Fay.

“It has really come together,” said Lee Spell, one of the owners. “We still have some finishing touches, but we are ready.”

The finishing touches include installing bistro seating on the front patio and constructing a 6-foot-tall wooden fence in the back of the bar to create a smoking area outside. The smoking area will also be equipped with an all-weather couch.

Downtown residents and organizations were invited to a private party on Wednesday for the official ribbon cutting to formally open the bar for business. Spell also took the opportunity to thank all the organizations that made the opening possible, including the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission and its Downtown Development Review Board and Downtown Vision, Inc.

The Ivy Ultra Bar plans to be open seven days a week with different specials each night.
