• LandMar Vice President and Shipyards Project Manager Robert Furlong has indicated to Jacksonville Economic Development Commission Executive Director Ron Barton that he can expect an audit of LandMar’s riverfront public improvement expenditures for last year. The audit will accompany LandMar’s next quarterly report on the Shipyards development.
• Procurement Chief Michael Clapsaddle has asked all elected officials, department heads, division chiefs, independent agencies, authorities, boards, commissions and councils to submit a form itemizing all planned or anticipated expenditures for food at events for the current fiscal year. City Council passed an ordinance last year requiring that all City departments and its agencies keep records of such expenditures. The forms are due back to Clapsaddle by Feb. 13.
• Duval County School Board Vice Chair and former Mayor Tommy Hazouri is seeking re-election. Hazouri was elected to the board in 2005. The primary is set for Aug. 26 and general election is Nov. 4.
• There’s an addition to the ACC baseball tournament championship game this year. Set for May 25, the day will also include a salute to the country’s veteran’s. Michael Bouda of the JEDC’s Sports Board said he is working with Dan McCarthy, the City’s chief of military affairs, to create a military appreciation day to include military displays and vehicles and a flyover.
• La Mee The Florist will return to Independent Square for three days next month. Feb. 12-14, the florist will set up a temporary shop and sell flowers and rose for Valentine’s Day. The florist was a Downtown fixture for over 70 years before closing the Independent Square store last year.
• Those interested in the proposed management plan for Huguenot Park may want to attend a public meeting set for Feb. 28. It’s being hosted by the City’s Recreation and Community Services Department at First Coast High at 7 p.m.
• According to Jeanell Wilson, chair of the Water and Sewer Expansion Authority, the last septic tank phase out project within the Better Jacksonville Plan should begin soon. The project is in the Oakwood Villas area.
• Correction: Mandarin Christian Church will not have the highest stormwater fee among faith-based organizations. That distinction goes to Trinity Baptist Church on Hammond Blvd. with a projected annual fee of $23,774.69.
• Don’s Barber Shop in The Carling is no more. It’s now Lucky’s Classic Cuts.
• The Hyatt is the state’s 24th-biggest hotel with 996 rooms. The biggest is Disney’s All-Star Resort in Lake Buena Vista with 5,546 rooms. In fact, the state’s five biggest hotels/resorts are all in Lake Buena Vista.
