The organization: The Women’s Council of Realtors is a national organization and Katchen heads the local affiliate. Despite the name, it is not a female-only organization.
What she’ll do: “As president of the WCR, I am committed to helping the chapter move forward and become more of a presence in our community. Through our teamwork we can continue to provide the type of information, resources and networking opportunities that help our members stay on top and out in front of real estate. Hopefully this makes the WCR member the preferred Realtor.”
How was she elected/selected? “After I joined WCR I was invited to serve as an officer. This allowed me to see and become involved in the chapter’s growth. It is impressive to see the quality talent that goes into running this organization and I am proud to be a part of it. I am constantly learning and improving a skill set I feel is invaluable and I can use no matter my future direction.”
When are meetings and what happens during them? General meetings (luncheons) are typically the third Thursday of the month, unless this conflicts with a State or National conference, from 11:30-1:30 and are at the San Jose Country Club.
“All are welcome to visit up to two times and then we do ask that you join. We welcome anyone in the real estate industry to come and check us out and contrary to our name, we do allow men as members. Our events are listed on our Web site www. Wcrjax.com. We have informed speakers educating us on topics covering various areas like negotiation strategies and practices, professional credibility, business planning, personal performance and cultural awareness. This allows us as Realtors to serve our community with leading edge knowledge and talent.”
Her business: She is a Realtor with St. Johns Communities.
Goals for 2008 as president? “To see the strength of this chapter grow not only in numbers but in commitment and participation from our diverse membership. We have had very strong leaders at the helm and I just hope I continue with the quality of excellence and raise the bar a little higher. What I don’t want is to lose the momentum we have achieved in the past. I feel honored to be among this group of professionals.”
How does the organization have an impact on the industry? “Our chapter is just part of a national organization with approximately 19,000 members so we definitely are considered a resource, leader and partner by other organizations with similar interests and values. If you are a Jacksonville Beach Realtor, you may not be aware of the market in other areas of Jacksonville but by being in WCR you would have that market knowledge likewise the WCR Jacksonville members can stay abreast of the real estate market and other related issues by our involvement at every level of the organization from local on up.”
What does the organization offer members that’s unique? “WCR creates an environment where members have an opportunity to develop qualities and skills to become leaders in not only their profession but in their personal lives as well. WCR provides education, networking and individual growth to help each achieve success by applying and unlocking their potential.”
