The First Coast Remodelers Awards were presented at the Remodeler’s Holiday Gala last month at River City Brewing Company. The awards program drew the largest crowd in the history of the council, with more than 100 attending.

This year there were eight more winning categories for a total of 18.

The new categories are: Commercial Addition or Renovation, Two Kitchen Renovation categories instead of one, two Bathroom Renovation categories instead of one, Residential Historic Restoration, Commercial Historic Restoration, Remodeled outbuildings, New of Innovative Product Installation, and Residential Addition or Renovation $500,000 to $850,000.

“The new categories were added so we could bring in more participants,” said Lawrence Murr, chair of the Remodelers of Northeast Florida Builders Association Council. “We felt there were some areas that people had not qualified for before, and we wanted to open it up to have more winners, especially with our larger council membership.”

“It was a very successful evening,” Murr said. “Plus this year we had two national speakers do the presentations and awards.”

Mike Nagel, National Association of Home Builders Remodelers chair, was the guest speaker and Patrick O’Toole, editor-in-chief of Qualified Remodeler Magazine presented the awards.

“Mike Nagel came because of the council’s growth and he wanted to congratulate us on behalf of the national council and let us know they appreciate what we have accomplished,” Murr said.

The Remodelers of NEFBA Council is the fastest growing in the nation, a title they have held through this year.

“We started out at 33 members and finished the year at 106,” Murr said.
