The State Attorney’s Office received the Patriotic Employer Award Friday from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve program of the U.S. Department of Defense. (From right) State Attorney Harry Shorstein accepted the award, joined by former Assistant State Attorney and current Assistant United States Attorney Kevin Frein, Director of the Special Prosecution Division Jay Taylor and Division Chief Steve Siegel. Frein nominated the division for the award. A Major in the U.S. Army Reserve 174th Legal Support Organization, on 9/11 Frein was just one week into his more than six years in Shorstein’s office. Frein was notified the day of the attack his unit would be deployed and knew he would soon be reporting for duty. “It’s a lot easier when you work for a Marine. Mr. Shorstein understood,” he said, referring to his former boss’ military service. “When I was deployed, the entire office served.”
