• Plaza III The Steakhouse at the Hyatt just received a catering license. When co-owner Linda McLean was asked if that meant a group as large as 1,000 people could be served she replied, “It would be a stretch but we would make it happen.”
• The Rotary Club of South Jacksonville has bestowed “honorary member” status on six people including past president Cody Skinner, U.S. District Court Judge Harvey Schlesinger (also a club past president) and U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Gerald Tjoflat. Also on the list are retired Admiral By Fuller, who served with U.S. Sen. John McCain in Vietnam, former insurance executive Ash Verlander and Jeanne Orth, Skinner’s daughter who accompanies him to the club’s meetings. Skinner is the oldest living charter member.
• The Florida Channel will air “Military Appreciation Days” programs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. The programs have taken place since 2004 at the Florida State House to honor the brave men and women who serve in the military and to educate the public on the history of the military. Five patriotic hours of programing can be seen on Comcast 26 in Duval County. The name of the channel is FCCJ 26 - Florida Community College Educational Access. • Baseball fans can thank Peter Bragan Sr. for giving them a team to root for and also wish him a happy birthday Thursday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The Jacksonville Suns owner turns 85 Thursday and credits his wife and baseball for helping him live such a long life.
• People looking to get away from the crowds during the City’s Fourth of July fireworks display can roost at St. Johns Park near the Ortega Bridge. The bridge offers a good vantage point for the show with less traffic hassle. The bridge and the park can reached from Ortega Boulevard from Highway 17.
