Staying connected just got a little easier at the United States Courthouse at Jacksonville.
Previously, security regulations prohibited cell phones and laptops from entering a Federal Courthouse in the Middle District of Florida without a court order. Attorneys were forced to either find a place to store them or keep them in their cars.
There are now storage lockers inside the lobby. The lockers are stacked into a tower 2 feet wide by 6 feet tall that provides 36 lockers for cell phones and eight for laptops. They are located a few steps after the security screening area on the first floor of the courthouse.
Access to the lockers can be gained by presenting either a valid Florida Bar Card or a current file-stamped copy of an order specially admitting the lawyer to practice in the Middle District of Florida. Ring tones must be shut off when phones are stored. Lawyers assume risk of theft or damage to stored items and there is a $25 fee for a lost key.
