• City Council President Ronnie Fussell is back at City Hall after having gall bladder surgery recently. He was in the building meeting with members of the mayor’s office Wednesday.

• Speaking of Council, Finance Committee Chair Michael Corrigan has added a date to his budget hearings schedule. The committee will also meet Aug. 26 from 9 a.m.-noon in Council Chambers. Over the course of four meetings the committee will pore over Mayor John Peyton’s proposed 2008-09 budget. Also, the Aug. 14 meeting is now from just 1-4 p.m.

• This year is the 10th anniversary of the Sulzbacher Center’s Transformations event and it will definitely have a football related theme. Jaguars owners Wayne and Delores Weaver are the honorary chairs while former Jaguar Tony Boselli and his wife Angie will serve as official chairs. It’s Sept. 18 at the Florida Theatre.

• This week’s “Where are they now?” features Heather Surface, the former spokesperson for the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission and main cog in the Super Bowl Host Committee. See page 5 to find out what she’s up to these days.

• Jenny Huxford’s cubicle in the City Council suite at City Hall is empty. She was former Council member Jay Jabour’s assistant before his election was nullified in court and had been filling in for other assistants after Jabour cleaned out his office. Huxford has a new job in the Public Works Department.

• Plans for the party are being solidified, but there’s going to be a retirement soiree for Joyce Gallimore, the receptionist at the Landing’s office. It’s not like she didn’t put in her time – Gallimore started the job before the Landing opened its doors 21 years ago.
