Barry Rutenberg, a Florida Home Builders Association past president from Gainesville, was certified last month by the Nominations Committee of the National Association of Home Builders to seek the office of NAHB vice president/secretary for 2009.

Rutenberg will square off against Chicago builder Marsha Elliott in a competitive race that culminates with a Jan. 23, 2009 election at the next International Builders Show (IBS) in Las Vegas.

Rutenberg has a 30-year history of leadership at his BA of North Central Florida, FHBA, and NAHB. He is a three-time local Builder of the Year, Florida Builder of the Year in 1994, and last year was inducted into the Florida Housing Hall of Fame for career contributions to the industry.

At NAHB, he has served on the Executive Board for the past 14 years.
