Charlene Shirk, director of community relations for The Players Championship, danced her way to first place in the recent Pine Castle “Dance for the Castle” competition. Along with partner Peter Perzhu of Arthur Murray Dance Studio, Shirk topped other notable celebrities such as Ch. 12/25’s Ken Amaro, City Council member Michael Corrigan and others. Shirk said dancing in front of a live audience was “terrifying.”

“I was relieved because my partner is a Russian champion and his work ethic is extremely rigorous,” said Shirk. “I did not want to let him down.”

The event was a fundraiser for Pine Castle. Director of Development Duval Malone said around 350 attended the event at Hyatt.

“It was a packed room. We could not fit one more person,” said Duval, adding the dance contest modeled after ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” generated $50,000.
