Shortly after 9 a.m. Monday, a small fire broke out at City Hall forcing everyone to evacuate the building. When the alarm sounded, hundreds of elected officials, City employees and visitors filed down the stairs and out onto the sidewalks and into Hemming Plaza. Damage was minor to the kitchen area adjacent to the Renaissance Room on the first floor, but the fire activated the building’s sprinkler system. It took until noon to get the smoke out of the building and mop up the water so people could return to work at City Hall.
