MetroPCS Communications will launch its low cost, flat-rate, unlimited wireless service in Jacksonville today.

“Jacksonville is a key market for MetroPCS – it allows us to further expand our Florida service area and to serve this vibrant community,” said Tom Gawronski, vice president and general manager, for MetroPCS Northern Florida. “As a new member of this community, MetroPCS demonstrates its commitment to Jacksonville by offering consumers a new, more flexible and affordable option for unlimited wireless service. Our flat-rate, unlimited low cost service plans make it possible for consumers to cut the cord on their land line phone and have only one phone – their MetroPCS phone. We believe we will be the natural choice of wireless service for Jacksonville residents.”

MetroPCS offers several “talk all you want” plans. With MetroPCS service plans, customers pay by the month, not by the minute, and services do not require a signed contract, credit check, minimum balance or deposit. Service plans start as low as $30 per month, and unlimited long distance service to the 48 contiguous states is available with service plans as low as $35 per month. Customers in the Jacksonville market will also be able to use their wireless service in all MetroPCS service areas, including coverage throughout most of Florida, for no additional charge.

With the addition of service in Jacksonville, MetroPCS will have 35 locations in the Duval County area. MetroPCS intends to have a total of 80 locations by the end of the year, including four company owned stores. In addition to bringing a new affordable, flexible, predictable low cost, flat-rate wireless service, MetroPCS’ entry into the market will create an estimated 300 jobs by the end of this year.
