November is here, so the holidays must be near.

The Jacksonville Asian American Bar Association (JAABA) held its bimonthly meeting Thursday at Florida Coastal School of Law to give law students a chance to visit with members and listen to the plans the association has for the upcoming months, including the its annual Christmas party.

“You never know what will develop from networking,” said Maria Aguila, president and founder of the JAABA. “This bar presents a unique opportunity for networking.”

Aguila also gave the audience of about 12 people tips to maximize their networking experiences.

“Whenever you get someone’s business card, write something down on it to help you remember that person,” said Aguila. “Keep those cards organized in a business card folder because they are going to help you get a job.”

Aguila founded JAABA about five years ago and the association currently has about 16 members. The executive board consists of Aguila, president, Tala Woods, vice president, Patrick Patangan, secretary and Larry Wang, treasurer. The Asian Pacific American Law Student Association of Florida Coastal School of Law is affiliated with JAABA. Woojin Kim is the present of the student association, Mai Vu is vice president, Jean Curioso is secretary and Adam Vencius is treasurer.

Some of those members discussed rejoining the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and set the budget for their Christmas party at Blackstone Grille on Dec. 5.

The next meeting will take place at the law office of Holland & Knight on Jan. 8 at noon.
