• Three members of the Jacksonville law community will be interviewed for a seat on the bench of the First District Court of Appeal. Public Defender Alan Chipperfield, Attorney Harvey Jay of Saalfield Shad and Circuit Court Judge Waddell Wallace will be part of the pool of 22 applicants that will be interviewed. All three will be interviewed on Dec. 2. A list of at least three and no more than six must be submitted to Governor Charlie Crist by Dec. 5.
• Santa will be at the Omni Hotel for a pancake breakfast to benefit the Safe Harbor Boy’s Home on Nov. 30 and Dec. 7. Seatings are available at 9, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m and tickets are $9.95 for adults and $7.95 for children ages two-12. • Mayor John Peyton’s trip was shorter than the rest that went to Seattle last week for the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce’s annual Leadership Trip. It was just an overnighter, but Peyton did get to tour Pike’s Place Market and was impressed with the number of small businesses that are successful at the waterfront market. He said the booths rent for $30 a day and the vendors must sell things they make or grow. No showing up and hawking watches.
• The 6th Annual Mr. Rogers Sweater Drive is underway. The event is sponsored by WJCT Public Broadcasting and VyStar Credit Union. Sweaters may be dropped off at 100 Festival Park Ave., Two Men and A Truck on Beach Boulevard and all VyStar locations. Contributions will be distributed by St. Vincent’s Mobile Outreach Ministry, Clara White Mission, I. M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. • It’s been a busy couple of days at the Florida Theatre. Theaterworks presented “If You Give a Pig a Pancake and Other Story Books” Friday and “Seussical” on Monday. In total, 5,600 Duval County K-5 students from public schools, private schools and even home schooled youngsters attended, some for their first live theatre experience. In addition, 1,600 St. Johns County students saw “Give a Pig a Pancake” at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre Friday, bringing the total participation to 7,200 young theatre-goers.
• Downtown Vision, Inc. is seeking people who would like to help with the Dec. 6 Downtown Historic Church Tour. Volunteers are needed for three-hour shifts from noon-3 p.m. or 3-6 p.m. They will assist with ticket sales, give directions and answer questions at designated points along the tour route and at trolley stops. The organization is also looking for four “artistic photographers” to take photos on the tour that will be posted on DVI’s Web site. • The Orange Park Chorale will perform two free chorale concerts Friday and Saturday. The performances, called “Why We Sing” will feature both secular and liturgical (traditional worship songs like those performed in a Catholic Mass) music. The Chorale will be at Grace Episcopal Church at 151 Kingsley Ave. in Orange Park on Nov. 21. The next day the 40-member group will perform at the Palms Presbyterian Church at 3410 South Third St. in Jacksonville Beach. Both performances start at 7:30 p.m.
