The Vintage Lawyers met Friday at the Regency Square Picadilly Cafeteria. The only requirement to join the group organized by Jacksonville Bar Association member Homer Humphries is that lawyers be at least 60 years old.
“We don’t have any dues and there aren’t any committees,” said Humphries. “And our meetings are routinely unroutine.”
About 20 members attended the informal luncheon, and that group included sitting U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Gerald Tjoflat and retired Circuit Court Judges Dorothy Pate and Bill Maness, and County Court Judge Tyrie Boyer; former Jacksonville Mayor Ed Austin and former JBA Presidents Jim Rinaman and Jim Cobb. Former and practicing attorneys Bob Beckham, Marty Sack, Ralph Sistrunk, Bob Cowles, Barry Zisser, Jim Williams, Ed Charon, Ken Anderson and Tracy Denese also attended.
“This group tends to lean heavily Republican,” said Zisser, “but there are some of us that still lean to the left.”
The background of presidential candidate Barack Obama and the terms of the financial bailout plan were topics of discussion during lunch.
