Nominating petition sought for Board of Governors vacancy

Florida Bar Executive Director John F. Harkness Jr. has announced a vacancy on the Board of Governors of The Florida Bar due to the death of Eleventh Circuit board member Steven Chaykin. Chaykin was finishing out a two-year term on the board in Seat 8.

The office commences immediately upon the conclusion of the special election of The Florida Bar, and continues for a term ending June 26, 2009, or until a successor is elected and qualifies.

Pursuant to Rule 2-3.9, nominating petitions for the vacancy must be filed with the office of the executive director on or before 5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30. If there is a contested race, election ballots will be mailed on or before Oct. 14 and voted ballots must be received prior to midnight, Nov. 3.

Nominating petitions for the Eleventh Circuit, Seat 8 vacancy must be signed by no fewer than five members in good standing whose official Bar address is in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit. Nominating petition forms may be obtained by downloading from the Bar’s Web site, www.floridabar.org, or by writing or calling the Executive Director’s office at The Florida Bar, 651 E.
