Rendezvous on the River – April 9, 2009

The Jacksonville Bar Association and Florida Coastal School of law welcome all Jacksonville professionals to the first annual Rendezvous on the River. This event will serve as the kick-off of the 2009 Law Day events and will be held on April 9, 2009 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at River City Brewing Company. Entry is $15 or $5 with a student I.D. This event will feature hors d’oeuvres, drink specials, a live band, and raffle prizes throughout the night. All proceeds will benefit Learn to Read Jacksonville.

2009 Law Day Cable Programming Television Shows – throughout April 2009

In partnership with the General Counsel’s Office and Comcast, the television show was produced on March 16, 2009 and will air throughout the month of April in order to inform the public about the many events in celebration of this year’s Law Day theme – Abraham Lincoln’s bicentennial.

Law for the Layperson/Naturalization Clinics – throughout May 2009

The JBA, in conjunction with the Florida Coastal School of Law (FCSL) Clinics, the Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Hispanic Bar Association of NE Florida will provide four free informative presentations to the public on issues such as U.S. naturalization, bankruptcy, consumers’ rights, and family law to reach out to a diverse community and expand the public’s understanding of the Rule of Law.  These presentations will be held in May at FCSL.  Specifically, the presentations are going to be: Naturalization, May 19 by David Vedder and Giselle Carson; Bankruptcy, May 21 by Robert Wilbert; Consumers’ rights, May 26 by Laura Boeckman; and Family Law, May 28 by Paola Parra.  

The events are being promoted through various media and multicultural Chambers of Commerce/Alliance such as the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; IndoUS chamber, African American Chamber and the Jacksonville Asian American Alliance.  These events will be held at Florida Coastal School of Law from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
