• The “There Oughta be a Law” lawyer variety show will return this year on Oct. 22. The Jacksonville Bar Association and Jacksonville Area Legal Aid sponsored event will open the show up to the families of lawyers and judges during its second year. Open auditions will begin sometime in June, be on the lookout for dates and times. • Speaking of JALA, development coordinator Christa Figgins has tossed her hat into the ring for a spot on the JBA’s Board of Governors.
• The American Bar Association’s Forum on Construction has awarded a Women and Minority Fellowship to Elizabeth B. Howard, a construction law attorney at Rogers Towers, P.A. The award is a three-year fellowship which will allow Howard to attend forum seminars and hold a position on a steering committee.
• After conducting a study required under the National Environmental Policy Act, the Navy has determined that the dredging of the Marine Corps Slipway at Blount Island will not have a significant impact on the river.
• If you’d tried to call any of the Nemours locations lately you may have noticed a change. As of last month, all three Nemours facilities in town changed their phone numbers to reflect a 697 prefix. The last four digits all stayed the same.
• Mayor John Peyton has nominated Sheriff John Rutherford for appointment to the state Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. Gov. Charlie Crist has indicated he will take the nomination under consideration.
• Speaking of Peyton, he has nominated Ernie Isaac to replace Jim McCollum on the Jacksonville Aviation Authority’s Board of Directors. If approved by City Council, Isaac would complete McCollum’s unexpired term until Sept. 30 and then his first full term until Sept. 30, 2013.
