The crinkle of cellophane echoed throughout the training room on the 10th floor of the Wachovia Building in Downtown Jacksonville Thursday.

This activity was part of the Christian Legal Society’s (CLS) annual donation of Easter baskets to the Ronald McDonald House of Jacksonville and the Pediatric Oncology division of Wolfson’s Children’s hospital.

“This is our fifth year making Easter baskets,” said Roger Gannam, event organizer. “It’s amazing how quickly we can get things done with enough people.”

Over 20 people, who were a mixture of CLS members and volunteers, helped make about 80 Easter baskets over their lunch hour. The baskets were also delivered to both locations Thursday, but recipients would have to wait until Sunday to enjoy the candy, toys and bibles inside the pink and blue baskets.

“They’ll stash them away, so kids can have some fun on Sunday morning,” said Gannam.

Donations from the local community, lawyers and Florida Coastal School of Law helped pay for the supplies to make the baskets.

The event was created by former CLS President Scott Schildberg.
