Friends and family of Tillie Fowler gathered last week on the Northbank Riverwalk to celebrate the official unveiling of a new piece of Art in Public Places dedicated to the former attorney, City Council president and U.S. Representative.

The Tillie K. Fowler Memorial, a sculpture titled “Showing the Way,” stands 18.5 feet tall by 16 feet wide. The work was created to display Fowler’s spirit as an oak tree, “strong, protective of the community, concerned for all and always reaching out.”

Friend and colleague Elaine Brown emceed the event, which featured speeches from Mayor John Peyton, U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw, Major General Douglas Burnett and managing partner Steve Sonberg of Holland & Knight, where Fowler practiced as an attorney.
