The Jacksonville Historical Society is celebrating its 80th anniversary in a big way! The Society is campaigning to purchase the Old St. Luke’s Hospital and the 1882 Florida Casket Company building. The two buildings will house a Jacksonville history museum and an archive for preservation, exhibits and study of Northeast Florida’s history. The Society is campaigning to raise $5 million to make the purchases. Jerry Spinks, president of the Society, is thrilled with the potential purchase of the two buildings. “This is the most important milestone in all 80 years of our history,” Spinks says. He also says he hopes to raise the money and have the purchases completed within the next six months.
