The Young Lawyers Section of the Jacksonville Bar Association (JBA) was recently awarded top honors from the American Bar Association.
The American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (ABA YLD) recently announced its “2008–2009 Awards of Achievement.” The annual award program provides ABA YLD affiliated state and local bar young lawyer organizations the opportunity to submit their best projects for evaluation and recognition by a jury of their peers. It is designed to encourage project development by recognizing the time, effort and skills expended by young lawyer organizations in implementing public service and bar service projects in their communities.
“It’s another reflection of how outstanding our Young Lawyers are,” said JBA President Dan Bean, “and what a credit they are to our legal profession.”
The Jacksonville Young Lawyers Section (YLS) won three separate Awards of Achievement in Division 2C, including: Comprehensive Project Award — Special Recognition; Single Project (Service to the Public) — Special Recognition for the YLS “Tee It Up” golf tournament; and Single Project (Service to the Bar) — 2nd Place for the YLS “Noon in June” program.
The YLS “Tee It Up” golf tournament raised over $24,000 this year for the Family Nurturing Center. The YLS “Noon in June” program is geared toward summer associates clerking in Jacksonville and includes tours of the federal courthouse, City Hall and Jacksonville Area Legal Aid. The event also features numerous speeches and presentations from leaders in the Jacksonville community. “Noon in June” also won the “2009 Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division Outstanding Member Service Project Award.”
The YLS is composed of area young lawyers who are 35-years-old or younger, or who have been practicing law less than five years. YLS is dedicated to providing a diverse array of programs and projects designed to benefit young lawyers, all members of the bar and the community.
