During its August board meeting, the Jacksonville Aviation Authority named three board members to a new Security Committee to evaluate security costs and efficiency at Jacksonville International Airport.
The security committee includes JAA Chair Ronald Weaver and board members Chester Aikens and Ernie Isaac, who will serve as the committee’s chairman.
The new committee is exploring the feasibility of utilizing Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officers and Community Resource Officers at JIA. The committee has been charged with evaluating whether the option makes financial sense.
“The purpose of creating a new security committee is to examine how to make JAX a more efficient airport in the current economy,” said Isaac.
“It is always important that we identify ways in which we can reduce overhead expenditures,” said Michael Stewart, director of external affairs for JAA. “As with many other costs associated with the airport, security is just one more area where we are considering other alternatives. Of course, JAA also remains committed to providing superb service in safety and security.”
Currently, JIA hosts about nine major airlines and a group of regional carriers, welcoming roughly 200 arrivals and departures, daily.
