Both new and absent-minded attorneys were sworn in to the U.S. District Court of the Middle District of Florida recently at the Bryan Simpson U.S. Courthouse.

“Some of you are here because you are beginning your careers and others are here because they forgot to pay their renewal fees,” said U.S. Magistrate Judge Howard Snyder.

All new lawyers planning to practice in federal court are required to apply for admittance into the court and attend an attorney admission ceremony at a divisional office. Once admitted to practice in federal court, attorneys are required to renew their membership annually.

“Attorneys who failed to renew their 2008 and 2009 membership are required to submit a new Attorney Admission Application, be scheduled for and attend an attorney renewal ceremony at one of (Middle District of Florida’s) divisional offices, and pay the $165 admittance fee before he or she will be readmitted to the Bar of this Court,” according to the Middle District’s Web site.

Renewal material will be mailed to active members of the Court’s Bar in May.
