• The legal industry continues to expand its workforce. The recent July exam hosted 3,147 prospective attorneys. Test results will be released Sept. 21.
• Results from persons sitting for both parts A and B of the Florida Bar Exam for the first time at the February 24-25, 2009 exam in Tampa include: University of Miami, 36 took exam and 22 passed (61.1 percent passing); U. of Florida 37 took and 24 passed (64.9 percent); Stetson, 75 took and 60 passed (80 percent); Florida State, 40 took and 26 passed (65 percent); and Florida Coastal, 59 took and 39 passed (66.1 percent).
• The engineering firm of RS&H is holding a big welcome party for new Jacksonville Aviation Authority Executive Director Steve Grossman Sept. 21 at the company’s headquarters. Much of the design work of the terminals at JIA was done by RS&H. Grossman’s first day on the job is supposed to be Sept. 14.
• U.S. Rep. Ander Crenshaw has let City Council know he fully supports the Small Business Development Center and asked the Council to assure it is funded.
• Jacksonville already has several Sister Cities all over the world and the Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico is looking to have his city join the list. Jorge Santini-Padilla has invited Mayor John Peyton to San Juan to sign a formal agreement Oct. 2. “This agreement will be of great benefit to the approximately four million U.S. citizens living in Puerto Rico as well as our fellow citizens in Jacksonville and the United States, as a whole,” said Santini-Padilla.
• Speaking of Peyton, he got a nice gift in the form of a $25 donation for his Rally Jacksonville! early reading initiative from the South Council of the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce.
• There’s a new nursing school in town. Chamberlain College of Nursing Jacksonville Campus will mark its grand opening Sept. 15. The school is on Belfort Road.
• The next Downtown Vision Inc. stakeholder meeting Sept. 9 will feature board member and Regency Centers Senior Vice President John Pharr leading a discussion on the state of Downtown retail among other topics. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. at the Hyatt.
• Speaking of DVI, satisfaction polls regarding the Downtown Clean Team and Ambassadors were taken by the organization with 30 Downtown property owners responding. The results showed that Northbank property owners were more satisfied with the services, while those on the Southbank were either satisfied or unfamiliar with some of the services the two factions provide.
