• The students at Florida Coastal School of Law have voted to honor U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Corrigan with its ‘Ehrlich Award’ presented to a member of the legal community who is “not only a pioneer in their professional life, but also a great humanitarian.” The award will be presented at a luncheon Feb. 5 at the Downtown branch of the Jacksonville Public Library.
• Jacksonville U. will mark the 40th anniversary of the run to the NCAA men’s basketball title game by the 1970 team next year. It’s Feb. 12 at the Arena and includes a reception, a dinner and videos.
• The City is getting closer to putting a Request for Proposal on the street for an independent auditor. A draft RFP for the fiscal years 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 has been written. Look for Council Auditor Kirk Sherman, Principal Auditor Kyle Billy and City Council Finance Chair Stephen Joost (CFO for Firehouse Subs) to comprise the team that’ll evaluate the proposals.
• Two teams from Stetson University College of Law — which is in Tampa — recently won their respective divisions at the ABA Law Student Division Regional Arbitration Competition at Georgetown Law in Washington, D.C. The Stetson teams beat teams from the University of Texas School of Law and Seton Hall University School of Law.
• While the Jaguars play at home the next three weeks, there’ll be a drive of a different sort tomorrow at the Stadium. The Blood Alliance and team will set up a “Jaguars Gift of Life” blood drive during an all-day event from 7 a.m.–10 p.m., with players onsite throughout the day, movie ticket giveaways and raffles for both Jaguar footballs and a chance to win one of 20 pairs of tickets to a luxury suite for the Dec. 17 Colts game.
