It may be three weeks before the country gives 2009 a farewell party on New Year’s Eve, but Jacksonville plans to host another big party prior to the Jacksonville Jaguars last home game of the season Dec. 17.
The City and “Touchdown Jacksonville-Revive the Pride,” a citizens group formed to encourage support of the Jaguars and educate the public on the importance of hosting an NFL franchise, invited members of the media to Jacksonville Municipal Stadium to talk about its Tealgate Party, which will be held before the Jaguars play the Indianapolis Colts.
“What we’re trying to do is re-energize the fans and enhance the fan experience at the stadium,” said Theresa Price, special events director for the City of Jacksonville. “Even if you don’t have a ticket, come down and enjoy the experience and see what it is.”
The “Ultimate Tealgate Party” will start at 4 p.m. at areas around the stadium including the practice fields and Adams Street. Live bands Flashback, The Caribbean Chillers and Cloud 9 will perform. The practice fields will host mini-football camps, cheerleader camps, interactive games and autograph sessions with Jaguar alumni. The alumni will be joined by Jaxson de Ville and ROAR Cheerleaders. A half-pipe will also be constructed for a skateboard exhibition. Santa, elves, snowmen and gingerbread men will be roaming the grounds around the stadium as well as the teal prize patrol, roaming karaoke and roaming football trivia.
“We are adding to the event on a daily basis,” said Lenny Curry, Touchdown Jacksonville event chair. “It’s going to be a great family experience.”
The City is partnering with Touchdown Jacksonville to organize the event and the budget for the party is between $100,000-$200,000, according to Price. The group plans to recoup some of its cost from a portion of beverage and concession sales at the event. The Jaguars have also contributed to the development of the event.
“To have an event at the stadium takes the partnership of many,” said Price. “Our committee could not function without (the Jaguars’) total support and their cooperation. They are thrilled at what we are doing to re-energize the region and all of those people who want to come in and experience what’s going to happen Dec. 17.”
