• Governor Charlie Crist will interview Duval County Court Judge Robert Arias and attorneys Thomas Beverly, Harvey Jay and Donald Lester to fill a vacancy created by the passing of Circuit Court Judge Peter Fryefield. Interviews are Jan. 12.

• Longtime Duval County Public Schools employee Bill Reynolds has filed to run for School Board Dist. 2 seat, which is currently held by Nancy Broner, who can’t run again due to term limits. Reynolds is a former teacher, principal and coach and is the author of several books including the “Jetty Man” series.

• Speaking of running for office, Sheriff John Rutherford has one filed opponent. Soren Brockdorf is a CPA and University of Florida graduate. His Web site — www.1sheriff.com — says he’s the controller for a $700 million company.

• The office of optometrist Dr. Jerome Weitzen on Laura Street will be closed today through Jan. 4.

• Good news for the St. Johns Riverkeeper: In his final ruling, Judge J. Lawrence Johnston denied Seminole County’s motion for attorney fees and expenses resulting from an earlier suit regarding water withdrawal from the St. Johns River. The ruling pleased Riverkeeper Neil Armingeon, who said the move was to exhaust the nonprofit’s resources in its fight against further withdrawals.
