by Edward Siegel, Esq.
A trial is not a game,
Despite what some may claim.
Handling the case with care,
You plan and then prepare.
You have to use your wits
In filing all those writs.
The facts were on my side;
My suit couldn’t be denied.
I was ready with the law,
Without a single flaw.
Now my witnesses appear;
They answered loud and clear.
Then opposing counsel spoke;
His evidence? A joke.
My arguments, though, were stunning,
Scholarly yet cunning.
Although I hate to brag,
I had it in the bag.
The jurors winked at me;
What a triumph it would be!
The verdict then was read,
But wait! What’s that they said?
Could I believe my ears?
My grinning turned to tears.
How could the jury do it?
It couldn’t be right; they blew it!
Well, that’s the way it goes,
As every lawyer knows.
There’s just one way around it.
The secret? I have found it.
I’ll make it sweet and short:
You’ve gotta settle out of court!
