For over 15 years provided pro bono services to people in need through St. Mary’s Episcopal Outreach Mission in Springfield, and for over 10 years pro bono work for the Better Business Bureau of NE Florida. Also, active in Learn to Read Jacksonville where I have served on the Board for many years and served as Chairman of the Board.

How did you get involved?

I was asked to join the board of Learn to Read Jacksonville by a close friend from St. Johns Cathedral who was serving as Executive Director at the time. I heartily joined the fund raising efforts serving twice as a “Kiss the Pig” contestant. I also took their tutoring course and learned first hand the wonderful work their volunteers do for the illiterate adults in our community.

What have you learned through this experience?

I had never realized the extent of adult illiteracy in Jacksonville until becoming involved with Learn to Read. The volunteers of this program are doing a great job whittling down these numbers, but they need more help. If you would like to become involved, Learn to Read needs you and will train you how to work one on one with individuals. They also need your financial support.

Last book read?

“A Land Remembered” by Patrick Smith.
